Tree shaping in Arcadia
A balanced look from the street, shaped by Empire Tree Care in Arcadia.
Send the details
Empire Tree Care shapes trees toward a chosen outline, in Arcadia and across the San Gabriel Valley. Tree shaping means cutting a tree toward the outline you want, so the crown reads as one even form instead of a lopsided one. A tree can grow heavy on one side, or stop matching the rest of the yard. The goal is the shape you see from the street. Shaping suits a tree you want to keep. Call or text (626) 493-7629 to line up an estimate.
The owner takes pride in clients being happy with the result, which suits a job that gets judged by eye. If what you want is less growth overall, tree trimming & pruning is the page to read first. If the crown is too dense, crown thinning is a separate job with its own page. Shaping is about the form. Describe the outline you have in mind and the tree you are working with, and the conversation starts from that.
The call can be in Spanish or English, since they speak Spanish and the business is father and son. You can text a description if that is easier than a call. Before you do, look over the page listing every town the owner covers in the San Gabriel Valley to see where your street falls. Email also works, at empiretreecarecorp@gmail.com. Give the town and the street so the conversation can start with the location.

What is tree shaping and who needs it?
Tree shaping is cutting a tree to give it a deliberate outline. The point is how the tree looks and sits on your property: rounder and more even, in proportion with the house and the trees beside it. That separates it from tree removal, which takes the tree out, and from tree stump grinding, which deals with what is left after.
A tree that leans a little or grows long on one side is a candidate, and so is one that has simply stopped matching the yard. An outline that suits one yard may not suit the next, so there is no standard shape on this page. You decide what looks right. The outline can be round, tall and narrow, or low and wide, and the clearer your picture, the better the first conversation goes.
Is tree shaping the same as shaping a hedge?
Not quite. This page is about trees, the kind with a trunk and a crown. A hedge or a row of shrubs is a different job. Hedge trimming and shrub trimming each have a page, and so does palm tree trimming for palms.
If you cannot tell which page fits, say what you have when you call. A plant with a single trunk and a spreading top is a tree, and a row of plants grown together is a hedge. Anything between the two is easiest to sort out by describing it.
Does tree shaping happen in the rain?
No. Rain ends the plan for a shaping appointment on a wet day. The one thing that goes ahead in the rain is an emergency call to take away branches that end up on a house or on a car.
That exception covers only those fallen branches, and the emergency tree service page covers that kind of call. If you are unsure whether yours counts, say what happened when you call. The rain rule applies to a shaping job the same as to any other booking. They're closed Sunday, so there is no Sunday shaping either, rain or not.
How much does tree shaping cost?
Call or text (626) 493-7629 and you get a price for your tree. Shaping has a minimum of $500. Quotes are not given from a photo, so a picture will not get you a number.
Once the owner gives you a price, it holds, and it does not change after the work starts. The price is given before the work begins. Shaping and trimming are separate jobs, so ask about the one you want. Pay by cash, card, Zelle or check. For a wider look at how pricing works across jobs, see Arcadia tree pricing in plain terms.
How does a tree shaping job go from call to invoice?
Your first move is a call or text, which gets the estimate scheduled. Hours are 6 AM to 9 PM on the six working days, Monday to Saturday. After that they show up and get the job done, and you walk the tree with them. An invoice follows, and that is the whole job.
Expect a text as they leave for your property, so you know when to be ready. The owner guarantees clean, safe work, and if anything on your property gets damaged, they repair it as soon as possible. Same day is sometimes possible and is never promised.
What should you tell them about the shape you want?
Say which side of the tree looks heavy, and which looks thin. Say where you usually see the tree from, such as the street or a kitchen window, since the outline is judged from there. If a neighbor's tree or your own roofline sets the height you want, say so.
You can describe the shape in plain words, like rounder or lower on the street side. A picture in your head is enough, and a photo is not needed. If the shape you picture means a much smaller tree, the page to read is crown reduction.
Does where you live in the valley change the job?
Where you live changes the drive. They are based in Arcadia and serve the whole San Gabriel Valley, reaching up to 45 miles from there. The owner works around La Crescenta and Pasadena, and near BMO Stadium.
Your street may be inside the 45 miles even if the town has no page of its own. Altadena and Sierra Madre have pages here too. Give your street and the town on the call, and name the side of the property the tree stands on. Say too if the tree faces the street, since a shaped tree is judged from there.
