Send the details
Empire Tree Care trims hedges in Arcadia and reaches across the valley too. Hedge trimming is the job for a row of shrubs grown close together as a wall or a screen, which sets it apart from the tree work elsewhere on this site. A hedge is cut along its length, across the top and down both faces. It often runs along a property line or a front walk, which is where a ragged edge gets noticed. Call or text (626) 493-7629.
Maybe the row has pushed out past the fence or crowded the walkway. Maybe the top has gone ragged and the sides lean out. Either way the edge is no longer where it belongs. A hedge that is dying, or one you want gone, is a different job called hedge & shrub removal. A few separate plants are shrub trimming. Say which one you have.
For the owner, proper care and pride in the work come first, and happy clients are the point. The number you are quoted stays the same once work begins, and photos do not set the price. The owner calls it a father and son business. A tall screen hedge and a low border hedge are both hedge trimming, so describe yours either way, including how long the row is and which side matters most.

What is hedge trimming, and how does it differ from shrub trimming?
Hedge trimming is cutting back a row of planted shrubs so the row holds one straight, even shape. A hedge grows back from the cut, so a row that has been left alone for a long time is a bigger decision than one that was kept up. You need the job when the row stops reading as a hedge and starts reading as a pile of green. The top goes ragged and the sides lean into the yard or over the walk. Shrub trimming is the neighboring service, for plants that stand alone around a house, and hedge and shrub removal is for a row that is coming out. Trees are a different set of pages, and tree trimming & pruning is where they start. If you are unsure whether your plants count as a hedge or as a few shrubs, say so on the call and it gets sorted out there.
What should you describe about your hedge before the estimate?
Describe the row. Say roughly how long it is, how tall it has grown and which side faces the street or a neighbor. Say what it is pushing against, whether that is a fence, a wall or a walkway. Mention what is under the hedge as well, whether lawn, gravel or paving. If the row has gaps or bare patches, mention those too, and say if the hedge has grown into a fence or wire. If part of the row has died, say so, because a dead stretch may be a removal question rather than a trimming one. If you look after a property with a long run of hedge, say that as well. Words on the phone are how the estimate gets started.
How does a hedge trimming job go from call to finish?
A hedge job opens with a phone call, and the call ends with an estimate day on the calendar. The estimate comes first, then the job. A text reaches you when they head over. When the cutting is finished you walk the property with the business, and standing at one end of the row you can sight down it and see the line for yourself. The invoice comes after that. Phones are open Monday through Saturday, from 6 in the morning until 9 at night, with Sunday closed. If you are hoping for today, ask. Same day is sometimes, and never promised. Hedge work is the kind of job where the line matters, so the walk-through is worth the time.
How much does hedge trimming cost?
Hedge trimming begins at $500. For your hedge's number, call or text (626) 493-7629. The figure you hear before the work starts is the figure on the invoice, so it does not move while the cutting goes on. A photo will not get you a quote. The $500 is the floor for a hedge job, and the figure for your row comes out of the estimate. There are no discounts, so the number in the quote is the number to plan on. Cash, a card, Zelle or a check all work for payment. To see how quotes work across all the tree jobs, the Arcadia cost guide, read with a hedge in mind, is the place.
Do you trim a hedge in the rain?
No. A hedge is no exception to the rule against jobs in the rain. The exception is an emergency: when branches are lying across the house or the car, that call gets taken in the rain. A hedge that has only grown too tall does not count. A branch across the roof is a different call from a hedge that needs cutting back, and it helps to say which one you have. Sunday is closed, so a hedge job is not booked for that day either. Ask about the forecast while you settle on a day, and say which kind of call yours is.
Do you trim hedges outside Arcadia?
Yes. Arcadia is home base for hedge work, and the valley around it is part of the job. Up to 45 miles is within reach, so a hedge in Duarte, Temple City or West Covina is inside it. Each of twenty towns has its own page, from Pasadena and Monrovia to Glendora and Baldwin Park, and the valley towns where hedges get trimmed are listed together. If your street is not on it, call anyway. A hedge inside the range is worth a conversation, and the town you give on the call is what sets the estimate in the right place.
