Empire Tree Care picks up tree jobs in Alhambra, and you book by phone. The city's About page says its streets were once lined with pepper trees and that the part of town west of Marengo Avenue became known as Dolgeville. Both are history by now. What matters for a job is the tree you have today and whose it is, a parkway tree or one in your yard. Call or text (626) 493-7629 and say which one it is, and which side of the sidewalk the trunk stands on.

Alhambra's tree preservation page says a Tree Removal Permit is required to remove, top, trim, prune, damage or otherwise materially alter a tree, unless an exception applies. The same page says trimming or pruning does not need an application as long as the work does not kill or damage the tree. Read the two together, and ask the city when a cut falls near the line. For trees in your own yard, tree trimming & pruning and tree removal are what you would call Empire Tree Care for.

A parkway tree is a different case. For a city-owned tree in front of a property, the city says to leave the work to its Public Works tree care professionals, and a city arborist will inspect dead or diseased parkway trees on request. A dead tree inside your own fence is dead tree removal. Alhambra is a regular run from the Arcadia base, well inside the 45 miles the owner will drive. Settle who owns the tree first, since a parkway tree gets a call to the city and a yard tree gets a call here.

Cuttings from a trim or removal meet city rules of their own. Alhambra's green organics container takes yard trimmings, leaves and grass, plus branches shorter than 4 feet and smaller than 4 inches across. Palm fronds are not allowed in it, so a palm leaves a different pile, and palm tree trimming is worth asking about when you call. The city's Bulky Item Pick-Up is its own program, so check it before you stack branches at the curb. San Gabriel is next door and has its own page.

How Bulky Item Pick-Up works

  • Put bulky items at the curb by 6 a.m.
  • Do not put items out before noon on the day before your regular collection day, and do not block the public right-of-way.
  • For 6 or fewer bulky items, you do not need to schedule ahead with the city's hauler. For more than 6 bulky items, contact the city's hauler to arrange the pickup.
  • Bundled items must be no longer than 4 feet and no more than 2 feet across, and weigh no more than 50 pounds each.
  • Electronic waste needs a separate pickup that must be scheduled.
  • Appliances that may contain Freon, such as older refrigerators, freezers and A/C units, must have the refrigerant removed before curbside pickup.
  • Car bodies, tires, and construction and demolition debris are not taken.
  • Items that need more than two people to remove are not taken.

Questions

Questions about tree service in Alhambra.

Do I need a permit to trim or remove a tree in Alhambra?
For removal, the city's page says a Tree Removal Permit is required, and the same goes for topping or materially altering a tree, unless an exception applies. For trimming, it says pruning needs no application as long as the work does not kill or damage the tree.
Who takes care of the tree in the parkway in front of my Alhambra house?
The city does, if the tree is City-owned. Alhambra says to leave the work to its Public Works tree care professionals, and a city arborist will inspect dead or diseased parkway trees on request.
How much does tree service cost in Alhambra?
The minimum is $500. Once a number is quoted, it stays the number. The pricing overview sets out the longer version, and a call or text to (626) 493-7629 gets you a number.
Can someone get to an Alhambra tree the same day?
Sometimes, and that is never a promise. Monday to Saturday is the working week, 6 AM to 9 PM. Sunday is closed.
Does rain stop a tree job in Alhambra?
Yes. Regular jobs wait out the rain. The one exception is an emergency call about fallen branches on a house or car.
